ABOUT TODAYS VIDEO: Enzymes For Dogs

How Do You Know if Your Dog is Enzyme Deficient?

Enzyme deficiency can show up as digestive upset and excess gas because the food is not digested properly. Imagine a person who’s lactose intolerant and suffering bloating, gas and general digestive upset from dairy. It’s because they don’t have lactase enzymes to digest the milk sugar. Well this is how a dog that’s enzyme deficient feels after eating their meals.

And when this goes on for an extended period of time, all sorts of health problems can occur due to the disruption of the metabolic processes in the body from lack of enzymes.

Supplementing Your Dogs Diet With Digestive Enzymes

Senior dogs need supplemental digestive enzymes in their diet as the enzymes produced in their body declines with age, and this is in part responsible for many age related health problems.

When a dog is getting enough digestive enzymes, they’ll have better immune system health and protection from disease, their skin and coat are healthier looking, joints move better with less arthritis symptoms and better oral health as they’re getting more of the nutrition out of their food.

Adding a digestive enzyme supplement to your dogs meals is a great idea or better still an enzyme rich diet, especially for older dogs. It’s also important to add in a quality probiotic to help enzymes do their work by creating healthy gut flora levels.

  1. Although it’s expensive, I’ve learned to finally take my dog off of the highly processed dog food and I now make a special blend for him to address the pancreatitis which he’s had twice in one year and I firmly believe it’s from the highly processes dog food as it’s ages in the bag over time raising the omega 6’s and lowering the omega 3’s over time while it’s exposed to oxygen and it’s not cheap food either but it’s still highly processed. I make a blend of 40% turkey, 40% beef, 10% beef liver and 10% fiber with pumpkin, carrots and spinach with homemade bone broth and a small sprinkle of dried powderized eggshell from the pasture raised eggs we cook for calcium and other natural nutrients in the eggshell along with the collagen from the shell lining. I will also give him a whole egg with the yolk runny with his meal at least once per day. Not cheap, but cheaper than the expensive pre made dog food that is offered online but my dog is thriving on this diet and LOVES when it’s time to eat, never seen him this excited when I put his bowl down. I also pour in a tablespoon of raw grass fed kefir to maximize gut health and microbiome. This will be a life long experiment to see if this method will extend his life beyond what has been determined for a typical dogs lifespan which typically is fed the highly processed garbage we’ve been feeding our pets for years. Funny how our pets seem to have the same health issues that are common in people on a typical garbage Western diet of highly processed foods….but no one every connects the dots!

  2. Should I give my 5 year old male lab/mixed a probiotic to go with the enzymes? and if so which one? Thank you for your time!

  3. My Labrador dog is 11 years old and has been on a raw diet for the last 6 years and has been mostly healthier than his first 5 years that he was on kibble.

But once in a while, he throws up his entire meal even 4-5 hours later almost completely undigested. He’s fine again from the next day. Is this something to be concerned about?

  4. Mt 11 yr olf Lab has laryngeal paralysis and was eating kibble most of his life, maybe this could be a main Ireson for this. I have changed his diet and has probiotics and now enzymes. I give him moringa powder for vitamins and organic lion mane mushroom and st john wort for his nervous system. Thank you for the info.

  5. Just wanted to ask if you know anything about Alpha Lipoic Acid to give to dogs for the nervous system. I heard its great for human but not sure about dog and what the dosage is, thought you might know?
